Inter Milan are now exploring the transfer of West Ham United star Gianluca Scamacca for this summer. He can replace Edin Dzeko unless the striker signs a new contract at San Siro.

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, which reports that talks between Inter Milan and Dzeko are stuttering. The Serie A side are only offering the 36-year-old a one-year contract with his current deal expiring in June. But the forward is asking for a two-year deal to stay.

Inter Milan are reluctant to agree to Dzeko’s request and have paused discussions with his agent until the summer. But San Siro chiefs are studying the market for a possible transfer and believe Scamacca can fill the void the Bosnia captain could possibly create at the club.

Inter Milan are now exploring an onerous loan transfer for Gianluca Scamacca

Scamacca has held admirers at Inter Milan for years but they missed out on his transfer to West Ham. The Irons beat the Nerazzurri after agreeing to pay Sassuolo £30.5m, plus £5m with add-ons. The Neroverdi also gained a future sell-on clause for the 24-year-old of 10%.

West Ham have not seen the best of Scamacca yet, though. He has only scored three goals during 16 Premier League appearances so far. David Moyes has also only started the nine-cap Italy star in nine games. He has not featured in any of the Irons’ past six games, either.

A knee injury kept Scamacca from the first three of those top-flight fixtures. But Moyes has chosen against introducing the attacker from his bench since. He also only featured for the final 30 minutes at AEK Larnaca in their Europa Conference League last 16 first-leg meeting.

So, Inter Milan are giving thought to the transfer of Scamacca and taking advantage of the West Ham forward’s desire to return to Italy. The Nerazzurri are considering making a loan offer with Romelu Lukaku likely set to return to Chelsea when his temporary terms expire.

Gianluca Scamacca already wants to leave West Ham United and return to Italy

AC Milan are also eager to lure Scamacca back to Italy just a year after he left for England. La Repubblica, via Sport Italia, reports the Rossoneri are plotting an onerous loan transfer with a €20m (£17.5m) buy option. But the Irons are unlikely to take the San Siro side’s bid.

Reports by Calciomercato have suggested that West Ham would seek €50m (£44m) to sell Scamacca this summer. Yet the Irons’ price tag is far more than AC Milan can afford. While the striker Declan Rice calls ‘special’ will consider his future once he appoints a new agent.

World Soccer Agency axed the 24-year-old over a lack of ‘trust’ despite Scamacca wanting to continue their partnership. The Stellar Group and GR Sports are now exploring a tie-up. While La Repubblica has also reported that Scamacca would welcome offers from Serie A.

Scamacca established himself in Italy and would happily return after a difficult debut term in England. He also struggled to succeed during his previous spell away from Italy. He failed to score through 10 games on loan to PEC Zwolle during the first half of the 2018/19 season.
