Moise Kean was ‘always overrated’ with Everton’s Premier League misfit making headlines for the wrong reasons at Juventus, former Serie A midfielder Massimo Bonnani tells Tuttomercatoweb.
The Italy international certainly made an impact off the bench during Juventus’ 1-0 defeat away at arch rivals’ Jose Mourinho’s Roma on Sunday night. Though Max Allegri was not expecting that ‘impact’ to be on Gianluca Mancini’s right calf.
Kean was on and off again within 40 seconds at the Stadio Olimpico; copping one of the fastest red cards in Serie A history in the process.
At the age of 23, the hope was that Kean had put such moments of self-destructive impetuousness behind him. Clearly, the Everton loanee still has a lot to learn. And with Kean’s attitude in question, Bonnani feels that a man who burst onto the scene during Allegri’s first spell in Turin is also lacking when it comes to ability.
“He’s always been too overrated,” says the former Roma, Lazio and Sampdoria man.

Kean was still a teenager when Everton spent £27 million to bring him to Goodison Park back in 2019. What looked like an exciting long-term acquisition at the time now feels like anything but.
Kean was sent off on his most recent Everton appearance too; Rafa Benitez quickly slapping on a ‘return’ sticker and mailing him back to Juventus following an early bath against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup back in August 2021.
While still technically an Everton player, Kean has a £24 million obligation-to-buy clause in his contract. An Allegri, for the most part, has spoken out in support of his one-time Paris Saint-Germain frontman, even after Kean was singled out for criticism by his own, ahem, ‘supporters’.
“Certain players enter (the pitch) and are booed,” Allegri grumbles, via NewsItaly24. “It happens with Kean, (Mattia) De Sciglio, sometimes with (Leandro) Paredes.
“They are Juventus players. Instead, there are those who come to the stadium to boo them. I think it is disrespectful to kids who are doing good things in a difficult moment.”
One suspects, after his 40-second cameo against Roma, Kean’s relationship with the Juve fans will take some repairing.
