Arsenal target Vitor Roque has admitted that his dream is to sign for transfer rivals, Barcelona in the summer.

Only recently, it was reported that Mikel Arteta was ‘desperate’ to sign the 18-year-old striker. However, it was also claimed that the Brazilian held a meeting with Xavi’s side.

Now, Vitor Roque has confirmed that he desire remains to join Barcelona next season, as Arsenal look set to bite the dust in the race for his services.

It has also been previously stated that Edu Gaspar held talks to convince the ‘new Ronaldo’ to join his club’s Brazilian contingent.

However, Vitor Roque has rejected Arsenal for all practical purposes by admitting his desire remains to play for Barcelona while speaking to Spanish outlet SPORT.

“I feel ready to play for Barcelona.”

“It’s a great motivation [that Barcelona have targeted his signing].”

“Playing for Barça is a dream. For any player. If I sign for Barça, my family and I will be very happy. That’s why I keep working hard. I want everything to be sorted out.”

Clearly, it seems extremely improbably that Arsenal will be able to beat Barcelona to sign Vitor Roque, who is valued between £30 million to £35 million.

You win some, you lose some

The nature of transfer market just means even some of the biggest clubs in the world like the Gunners may sometimes finish runners-up in their chase to sign a player.

And ultimately, when a player such as Vitor Roque is as keen as he is as signing for Barcelona, there is not much the English side can do to stop him.

While the 18-year-old has also been compared to another former great in Fernando Torres, the Premier League leaders must swiftly move on to other transfer targets as they continue to progress under Mikel Arteta’s leadership.
