As Tottenham Hotspur prepare to locks horns against Chelsea in their age-old rivalry on Sunday, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster has been pictured in training.

The 22-year-old was famously praised for holding his own up against the-then Everton wideman Ademola Lookman in an U-23s game by Spurs coach, Wayne Barnett. Blogger Superhotspur once described the talented centre-back as ‘classy’ and even compared him to Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

While it seems Brooklyn Lyons-Foster is yet to get his big break and reach the heights he was supposed to during his rise up the ranks, it is interesting that he was training alongside the Tottenham first-team ahead of their contest against Chelsea.

Ultimately, the hope remains that the Englishman becomes a regular member of the senior side once again, considering the hype around his name at one point.

But it was interesting to note that on Getty Images, Tottenham wonderkid Brooklyn Lyons-Foster was spotted in Tottenham training ahead of their game against Chelsea.

While there remain question marks over whether the highly-rated defender even makes the matchday squad, it is a heart-warming sight to see that the club are far from reaching the point of giving up on his potential.

A future solution to Spurs’ centre-back crisis?

In an ideal world, the answer should be yes. Barring Cristian Romero, who Cristian Stellini has admitted tends to be rash at times, Spurs well and truly lack quality in the centre-back position.

Eric Dier’s form ebbs and flows, Ben Davies is a solid if not spectacular option, Clement Lenglet can perhaps only perform at a serviceable level in a back 3 and Japhet Tanganga is simply out of form and has looked like a limited prospect at the highest level.

While it remains unexpected that Brooklyn Lyons-Foster will be given a chance in central defence for Tottenham at senior level anytime soon, it could be an option worth exploring and assessing his displays in training, as he must have been eager to impress during the pre-Chelsea session.

Considering the prodigy is known to be comfortable on the ball and an intelligent reader of the game, this may well be food for thought for the coaching staff.
