Tottenham reportedly made an offer to sign Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the January window and could return in the summer to bring the Moroccan to London – a player that Hugo Lloris applauded for his form at the World Cup.
The 31-year-old, who has been nicknamed Bono, has been excellent for Sevilla since joining the club in the summer of 2020. Clocking up 56 clean sheets in 128 games, conceding just 118. At the World Cup, Bono was superb for Morocco.
The Canada-born star played in six of Morocco’s seven games, missing the second group game through injury. He kept three clean sheets with Morocco reaching the semi-finals, eventually losing the third-placed play-off against Croatia.
Spanish newspaper AS claim that Spurs tried to buy Bounou in the January window, tabling an offer north of £17m. With Lloris likely to be replaced in the summer, Spurs could retain their interest. Lloris was impressed with him in Qatar.

“He is an excellent goalkeeper. That’s also the beauty of a World Cup. It highlights players who play, perhaps in less prestigious clubs than others, but who have talent,” Lloris said on Bono’s form at the World Cup, as per Yalla Sport.

Lloris is certainly going to leave the club – if not this summer, which seems likely, then perhaps next season. Even if he stays, Spurs need a better goalkeeper and Bono is an improvement. He might not be top tier, but he is a solid stopper.
Good with his feet but a superb shot stopper, too. Spurs have been linked with others including Jordan Pickford, Jan Oblak and plenty more. If they fail to get some of these type of calibre players, then a move for Bono makes sense.
