Jamie Carragher has said that Tottenham Hotspur Antonio Conte could never do what Mikel Arteta has done at Arsenal by building a successful, yet long-term project from the ground up.

The ‘intense’ ex-Chelsea manager has widely been questioned for the job he has done at Spurs so far, with the Liverpool legend even tipping his side to finish outside of the top 4, just behind Newcastle United.

But now, Jamie Carragher has also said that Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is incapable of building a project in the same vein as Mikel Arteta has managed to do so at Arsenal.

Ultimately, the Italian manager is generally rated a lot higher than the £159,000-a-week ‘genius’, due to his experience and the number of trophies he has won in comparison to the relatively inexperienced, yet demanding Spaniard.

However, Jamie Carragher has said on The Overlap that Antonio Conte could not do what Mikel Arteta has done at Arsenal, saying, “I don’t think Conte could do what Arteta has done, or Klopp, almost build it every year and getting better. Conte, he wants to win right now, he’s impatient. That’s why he loses his head in press conferences.”

“I don’t think it’s ever a project with Antonio Conte. And that’s not a criticism. He wants to win today, he’s not even thinking about tomorrow.”

Carragher is right but it doesn’t particularly matter as well

Perhaps the most fascinating aspect about the art of management is the variety of roles different tacticians can play.

While Mikel Arteta, as Jamie Carragher said seems to be proficient at building projects as his Arsenal side has stalwarts such as Bernardo Silva acknowledging their threat, Antonio Conte is a specialist it at having an immediate impact at whichever club he manages.

Unfortunately, a number of fans and pundits alike often fail to appreciate different profiles of managers due to a combination of agenda-fueled narratives and a black-and-white perception when it comes to football.
