Jermain Defoe has said that Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is better than Manchester City’s Phil Foden on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel.

The £70,000-a-week talent is having a tremendous season with Mikel Arteta’s side, garnering him plenty of praise from the likes of Pep Guardiola, Martin Keown, Owen Hangreaves and Luke Shaw.

So much so that Jermain Defoe now thinks Bukayo Saka is better than arguably one of England’s brightest talents in decades in Phil Foden.

On the ongoing Saka-Foden debate this season, Jermain Defoe first said, “[Bukayo] Saka.”

When quizzed about Joel Beya whether his answer would have been different last year, Defoe replied, “I don’t know, you know. I just think Saka’s a special player and from what I hear, he’s one of the nicest boys in the world, so good for the changing room. But I love [Phil] Foden. I love Foden man, he’s a special player.”

“But I don’t know, I think Saka’s got a little bit more.”

Currently, it’s hard to disagree with Defoe

There is no questioning that judging their careers so far, the Manchester City attacker has the edge, as he has been there and done that at the highest level for perhaps one of the greatest teams in Premier League history.

But considering Phil Foden has been started in the team on an inconsistent basis, as opposed to Bukayo Saka, who has led Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge, Jermain Defoe.

Whether the Ealing-born youngster is better than the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ in terms of his natural talent is a debate that is likely to rage on for the next couple of years as the pair dominate for both club and country. But currently, Jermain Defoe is right about Bukayo Saka being better than Phil Foden.
