Jermaine Beckford said he would welcome back Marcelo Bielsa to Leeds United after the sacking of Jesse Marsch.

The former Leeds striker added that Bielsa returning would be ‘exciting’, but he doesn’t think the club will push through with it again.

A number of Premier League jobs have become available recently, most recently at Everton, who opted for Sean Dyche.

Interestingly enough, there was talk of Bielsa replacing Frank Lampard at Goodison Park, but in the end, the Merseyside giants opted against it because of his outlandish demands.

Everton have proven what a new manager can do if, on paper, the right man is brought through the doors.

Those in Yorkshire, ahead of a double-header against Manchester United in the Premier League, will be hoping the same, with Beckford sharing his thoughts on Bielsa, as he told Sky Sports News (06/02/23).

“It’s possible (Bielsa replacing Marsch),” said Beckford. “Don’t get me excited. Don’t do that to me. It’s definitely possible.

“However, Marcelo Bielsa would have to change quite a bit and we all know what he did the first time around. He was very intimidating in his approach. But he was all unforgiving. He took no nonsense. He was ruthless and relentless in his pursuit of perfection.

“Albeit, we saw an extremely exciting type of football from Marcelo Bielsa and one that we haven’t seen at Leeds for a long, long time. There were areas that were easily exploited. We saw that leading up to his sacking.

“I am a huge fan of his. He managed to bring Premier League football back to Leeds after 16 extremely difficult years. Would I like to see him back? Absolutely. Do I think it would happen? I don’t think so.”

LEEDS SHOULDN’T BRING BACK BIELSA

Don’t go back to your ex. Those memories Bielsa provided the Leeds fans are still full of sunshine and happiness.

They don’t want to ruin it by this second spell going very wrong, such as a relegation, and then those memories become all doom and gloom.

Plus, as Leeds know too well, Bielsa’s tactics and philosophy are something that just aren’t suited to a team midway through a season and one fighting relegation.
