Ian Wright has admitted that he was confused by Everton being linked with Marcelo Bielsa as the replacement for Frank Lampard, as he always felt Sean Dyche was the perfect appointment.

Early evidence certainly vindicates the renowned pundit, as the former Burnley boss received plenty of praise for masterminding a 1-0 win against Arsenal in his first game in charge, with the Gunners legend even saying that his side deserved to lose.

Now, Ian Wright has discussed why hiring Marcelo Bielsa instead of Sean Dyche would have made for a bizarre decision from Everton, considering they were in the relegation zone after Frank Lampard was shown the door.

Wright on confusion about Everton potentially hiring Bielsa over Dyche

Many were in favour of the Argentine tactician walking through the door at Goodison Park, considering he was key in taking Leeds United from the Championship to the Premier League, and ensuring that they cement their presence in the division.

However, Ian Wright did not see the logic of Everton being heavily linked with hiring Marcelo Bielsa when Sean Dyche was available.

“I found the [Marcelo] Bielsa link very, very strange with Everton in the situation they’re in. As soon as it became available, I thought, ‘they’re going to go for Sean Dyche because he’s literally perfect for the job.’”, Ian Wright said on the Kelly & Wrighty Show.

“I can’t understand how they can look at Bielsa with the way it went for him at Leeds, with how it went for him at Leeds, with how they played and how they trained, how it burnt out, they don’t need that now.”

“They need stability and a manager who looks at you in the eye, and tells you exactly what’s going to happen.”

While Marcelo Bielsa is a visionary within the game, Ian Wright is spot on, as Everton should have never hesitated to hire a relegation fire-fighter such as Sean Dyche.
