Sky commentator Andy Hinchcliffe was full of praise for Anthony Gordon during his cameo for Newcastle United in their 1-1 draw against West Ham United.

After Callum Wilson opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s men, Lucas Paqueta equalised on a night to forget for the hosts at St. James’ Park.

However, Sky commentator Andy Hinchcliffe was extremely impressed by Anthony Gordon, who was a lively presence for Newcastle against West Ham off the bench. The same was the case with Jermaine Defoe, who said he was ‘really sharp.’

It’s safe to assume that Sean Longstaff was spot on about being ‘excited’ about signing the 21-year-old in the first place.

As Sky commentator Andy Hinchcliffe seemingly agreed, heaping praise on to Anthony Gordon for his brilliant cameo for Newcastle against West Ham, saying, “Anthony Gordon’s first involvement as a Newcastle player is really sharp. He fizzes that ball forward and gets on the move.”

He added, “Brilliant attacking play from Anthony Gordon”, while going on to say, “This touch and pass from Gordon is outstanding” during commentary on Sky Sports.

Newcastle may have signed a real player in the ex-Everton star

When the Englishman was initially signed by the Magpies, several eyebrows were raised, including those of Paul Merson, due to the fee having forced his way out by missing training, which even Sam Allardyce was not a fan of.

However, Anthony Gordon has seemingly blocked all the noise and focused on his football at Newcastle, as he looked the part against West Ham from the very get-go, as pointed out by the Sky commentator Andy Hinchcliffe.

The youngster’s searing pace, direct dribbling, smart link-up play and eye for a chance made him a menace for David Moyes’ side to tame, as he proved a number of doubters wrong about why he may well have been worth the investment.
