Jermaine Jenas has responded on Instagram after Tottenham confirmed the arrival of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon in the final minutes of the January window – after watching Porro shine against his old side in the Champions League.

Porro, 23, was linked with Spurs throughout the window. In a long-winded saga, Spurs and Sporting were constantly in talks to land the Spain star. Sporting wanted his release clause, Spurs wanted to sign the right-back in installments.

Eventually, a deal was done. Porro joins on loan with an obligation. Sporting needed the cash on their balance sheet for next season – but the two parties worked out a deal that saw Spurs get him now. £5m up top, £39m as a total figure.

The move to sign Porro was confirmed in the final 10 minutes of the window. It also saw Djed Spence move on loan to Rennes, and Matt Doherty’s contract cancelled to allow him to join Atletico Madrid. Tottenham posted on Instagram.

Porro is a wonderful signing. Jenas is a fan. On commentary for BT Sport during the 1-1 draw in North London between Spurs and Sporting, Jenas urged his old club to sign him. He said that Porro had been “different class” in the match.

Now, Spurs have their man – while getting two of what could have been four options at right-back out the door. Atleti get Doherty on a free until the end of the season due to a FIFA rule – a move which dumbfounded Paul Robinson.

Spence joins Joe Rodon on loan at Ligue 1 side Rennes. Responding to Tottenham’s post on Instagram, Jenas used one word to describe Porro – commenting “baller”. Pascal Chimbonda was also among those to react to Tottenham’s post.
