Leicester City decided against reuniting Brendan Rodgers with Fulham winger Harry Wilson during the final day of the Premier League’s transfer window, according to the Daily Mail (31 January, 11.35am).

You wait five years for a permanent January signing and then three arrive in the space of just two weeks. Leicester, during the final fortnight of the window, reinforced Rodgers’ ranks with a trio of new additions.

Victor Kristiansen, a £13 million arrival from Copenhagen, became the club’s first mid-season signing since Fousseni Diabate all the way back in 2018. He would be joined by Brazilian speedster Tete; joining on a short-term deal from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Harry Souttar, meanwhile, provides competition and youth for an often-error-prone backline counting the cost of Jonny Evans’ long-term absence.

Leicester City made three January signings but missed out on another winger

Three would not become four, however; Leicester’s pursuit of another wideman fizzling out as the clock struck 11pm.

The 2016 Premier League champions failed with a £20 million bid for Leeds United’s Jack Harrison, Whites boss Jesse Marsch expressing his desire to retain the one-time Man City youngster following that stunning long-range goal against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup fourth round (The Athletic).

The Mail, meanwhile, believe that Leicester ‘backed away’ from bringing in Wales international Wilson from high-flying Fulham. Wrexham-born Wilson, like Tete and Harrison, is a left-footed attacker capable of cutting inside from the right.

“I know Harry very well,” Rodgers said recently of his former Anfield prospect. “He’s a fantastic talent.”

He has started just three Premier League games since promotion due to a knee injury, however. Concerns over the 25-year-old’s fitness may have been a factor in Leicester deciding against a January bid.

Wilson’s focus, now that the window has closed, will be on re-claiming his place in Marco Silva’s XI at Craven Cottage. Bobby Decordova-Reid and the revitalised Willian will certainly take some shifting.

But Wilson remains arguably Fulham’s most creative, talented right-winger. During the 2021/22 Championship title-winning campaign, the one-time Derby County and Hull City loanee scored 11 goals and set up a staggering 21 more.
