David Ornstein claims that Arsenal have accepted that they’re not likely to sign Moises Caicedo on deadline day.

Caicedo has been a target for Arsenal over the past week. They’ve made three bids for the Brighton star, but the Seagulls do not want to sell.

Ornstein is one of the most reliable journalists covering Arsenal, and while Sky Sports report that Caicedo could still join the club, it seems unlikely.

Jorginho looks set to arrive as an alternative, and while he isn’t as exciting as Caicedo, he comes with a lot more experience at the top level.

Brighton have been steadfast in their view that Caicedo is not for sale this month, and it looks like they’re going to keep hold of their star man, for now at least.

More interest in the summer is inevitable, and Caicedo has made it clear that he wants to leave with an Instagram post that pulled no punches.

Whether a summer move to Arsenal surfaces remains to be seen, but Declan Rice has been named as the Gunners’ top summer target, so perhaps they will go for the England international rather than Caicedo.

Of course, you could debate whether or not Caicedo is a better player than Rice until the cows come home, but given that Arsenal need to fill a homegrown quota, Rice does have that added value to the Gunners’ squad while also being a quality player.

Factor in Rice’s contract situation and the fact that West Ham are in a relegation battle this season, a move for the Hammers’ star man in the summer could be more logical than a move for Caicedo.

Whatever happens with Caicedo, it’s almost certain that he’s going to be a player to watch as the summer transfer window approaches.
