Bryan Gil is on the verge of completing a loan move from Tottenham to join Sevilla until the end of the season – and Michael Bridge has told Sky Sports News (30/01, 5:20PM) that Gil was ‘disappointed’ Spurs signed Arnaut Danjuma.

Gil, 21, came into the side at the beginning of January. With Richarlison and Deki Kulusevski injured, Antonio Conte turned to the Spanish wonderkid. He got an assist against Crystal Palace in a 4-0 away win, creating for Harry Kane.

But since then, Spurs have signed Netherlands ace Danjuma. The Villarreal ace has joined Spurs on loan with an option to buy the ex-Bournemouth man. Danjuma came on as a sub against Championship side Preston to score on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gil is set to go back to Spain. He rejoins Sevilla, the club Spurs bought him from in the summer of 2020, in a £21.6m deal plus Erik Lamela. Reporter Jose Manuel Rodriguez has posted a video on Twitter of Gil arriving in Seville.

With a move yet to be confirmed but expected to go through, Bridge gave an update on Sky Sports News. He said that it was his “understanding” that Gil was disappointed Spurs signed Danjuma. He felt he had done enough in his starts.

Bridge: Gil disappointed Spurs signed Danjuma, as he heads to Sevilla

“My understanding is that he was a little bit disappointed to see Arnaut Danjuma come in, he thought he had done enough to be in Antonio Conte’s plans. Did well against Crystal Palace the other week, he will be disappointed.

“Spurs paid £21m and Lamela, and now both players are at Sevilla. Spurs think he will do well there and generate a fee for the summer,” Sky Sports reporter Bridge said on Monday evening, with Gil now set for a second spell at Sevilla.

It is harsh on Gil. The youngster has rarely got his chance and when he did get those starts at the beginning of the month, he impressed. He was involved heavily in the 4-0 win over Palace. But, football is ruthless. Spurs have moved.

The fact is that Gil has played 31 times for Spurs – albeit, a lot from the bench – and has failed to score a single goal. He has laid on just two assists. Antonio Conte prefers more-experienced players and Danjuma is exactly that.
