Danny Murphy has told TalkSPORT (Wednesday, 11:10AM) that Everton will be relegated from the Premier League to the Championship if they decide to hire Marcelo Bielsa – with reports saying the club are in talks with the Argentine.

Everton have sacked Frank Lampard this week after a dismal 2-0 loss to fellow strugglers West Ham on the weekend. The Toffees are now in crisis, without a manager and only days away from the end of the January transfer window.

Plenty have been linked. Sean Dyche is a front runner, while Marcelino and Ralph Hasenhuttl have been touted. Even, Brentford manager Thomas Frank. The Independent report that Bielsa is in talks, but has reservations about Everton.

But ex-Liverpool midfielder Murphy has given his verdict on the potential of Bielsa returning to the Premier League. Of course, Bielsa is out of work after leaving Leeds in February 2022. He says Everton will go down if Bielsa is appointed.

“Not in a million years. Respect what he did at Leeds but they were all over the place. If he tried to implement that at Everton, they would go down. If he comes in and tries to play that style of football, they go down,” Murphy said.

The issue with Bielsa joining Everton at this stage is that it is the middle of the season. Bielsa is a manager that needs time. He needs space and a project. It worked at Leeds because he joined in pre-season, to instill his style of football.

At Everton, he would not get that. He would be joining a club in a volatile situation, with the need to deliver results very quickly. Gary Neville says he would excite fans and his attacking style would – but, they would leak goals.

That is not what Everton need right now. They need a fire fighter. A manager that can get them solid defensively, a manager that can make them hard to beat. Perhaps, a Dyche would be the right man for the job at this moment.
