Gary Neville has told Sky Sports that Marcelo Bielsa would “lift the dressing room” if Everton appointed the Argentine at Goodison Park – with the Toffees said to have made an approach to lure the legendary boss back to English football.
Bielsa, 67, is still out of work and is approaching a year on the sidelines after being sacked by Leeds. A club in which Bielsa has come an icon, clocking up more games as manager for Leeds than any other clubs – or indeed, nations.
His glittering CV includes Athletic Bilbao, Argentina, Marseille, Chile and plenty of other clubs. He is currently in his home country, but could be tempted to move back to England. The Independent say Everton have approached him.
Neville was asked if Bielsa would be a good choice to replace Frank Lampard. He responded by saying he would excite fans with his attacking style of football, and lift an Everton crowd that is currently seething with the club’s owners.
“It would be fun. I can still see the remnants of Bielsa at Leeds. He would lift that crowd, he would lift the dressing room because the football would instantly become energetic,” Neville told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Neville: Bielsa would lift the Everton dressing room, approach made
The report from the Independent states that Bielsa is considering an approach from Everton. It is not based on finances, but whether he can bring his backroom staff in. And, certain details at Goodison Park and maybe, Finch Farm.
Everton are in a worryingly perilous position and need an instant impact. Leeds fans will know that Bielsa’s system takes time to mature and get right. But, his attacking style will certainly help the Toffees start to score goals in attack.
What is for certain, is that a move to Everton would be heartbreaking for Leeds fans. To see their beloved Bielsa face Leeds not only in the dugout on February 18, but also, in the midst of a relegation battle this season.
