Owen Hargreaves says that he is ‘not sure’ Harry Kane will sign a new Tottenham Hotspur contract despite rumours emerging that he is ‘open’ to a new deal, as he told Premier League Productions (23/01/23 at 2:55 pm).
The former England midfielder thinks that Kane ‘deserves’ to have a Premier League title to his name and he will want to break Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record rather than head abroad and sign for a Bayern Munich, for instance.
On Monday night, Kane hit goal number 199 in the Premier League when Antonio Conte’s side beat Fulham 1-0, which is now nine goals behind Manchester United and Everton great, Wayne Rooney, who is second on the list.

But, most importantly for the player, he is 61 goals behind a certain Alan Shearer.
Whilst that record, Tottenham’s all-time goalscoring record and England’s all-time goalscoring record are there to be broken and will be broken by the player, will he be able to add a trophy or trophies to boot?
Well, given that Kane could seriously risk the chance of not winning anything in his career, Hargreaves expressed his surprise that he could sign a new deal.
“100% (comes out from Kane’s side that he wants to leave), unless from the club because they are under pressure,” questioned Hargreaves. “That’s what I don’t get (Kane resigned to not winning anything by signing a new deal).
“He deserves to compete for a Premier League trophy. He really does, the Champions League trophy. I am not sure he will be completely content with not winning something deep down. I think he would want to stay in the Champions League, as much as Bayern and all these clubs will be amazing for him
“I think he will want to stay in the Premier League to break Alan Shearer’s record and I think he will. I think he will want a Premier League trophy to his name. He deserves it.
“Spurs fans would even look at it and wouldn’t begrudge him leaving. The issues the club have consistently. I don’t think Harry can do anything more than he is doing. I am not sure he signs a new contract now.”

KANE TO SIGN A NEW DEAL?
Antonio Conte might head for the exit door in the summer, but if Spurs fans had a choice, then they are keeping their star man over the trophy-laden coach.
There are suggestions that once the January transfer window slams shut, talks will begin with Kane about the £200k-a-week goal-crazy striker signing a new deal in north London.
If that happens, then it’s probably the best news Spurs fans can get, well, aside from winning a trophy.
Either way, it would show serious, serious loyalty from the player that he is willing to risk not winning a trophy in his career to just get that one very important one with Tottenham.
