Everton have now held talks with Marcelo Bielsa over being their next manager after Frank Lampard. But the Argentine wants Farhad Moshiri to explain the Toffees’ transfer strategy.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports Moshiri considers Bielsa his top target to now take charge. The Blues owner sacked Lampard on Monday with the Merseyside outfit 19th in the Premier League table. They have won just three of their 20 fixtures this season.

Lampard only stood at the Goodison Park helm for 357 days after taking charge on January 31, 2022. But Moshiri dismissed the 44-year-old following just 12 wins over his 44 matches in charge. Lampard also only oversaw nine top-flight wins to 21 defeats over his 38 games.

Now, as Everton are only off the bottom of the table on goal difference over Southampton, the Goodison outfit know they must name the right candidate to replace Lampard and feel Bielsa can galvanise the team if Moshiri now names the 67-year-old as their next manager.

Yet Bielsa wants Moshiri to explain Everton’s transfer strategy before he would agree to be their next manager. There is only one week left of the January sales and the Toffees have a number of issues to address. Most urgent is the Blues’ lack of goals across their 20 fixtures.

Bielsa would have a number of issues to address as the next Everton manager

Lampard oversaw the second-worst attack in the Premier League this season with Everton scoring just 15 goals. Only Wolves with 12 have found the net less often so far this term to sit 17th in the standings. Whilst only three Toffees players have hit home more than once.

Anthony Gordon, Demarai Gray (3) and Dwight McNeil (2) are the top scorers at Goodison Park so far this season. While strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay are among the six Blues players to net just once. Only Alex Iwobi (6) has more than one assist, as well.

So, Moshiri will likely have to assure Bielsa that Everton will back the Argentine’s vision to hire the former Leeds United boss as the next Toffees manager after sacking Lampard. The Whites fired him as their head coach on February 27, 2022 with the club sat in 16th place.

Bielsa – who former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino considers a ‘genius’ – won 23 of his 64 top-flight matches in charge of Leeds to 28 defeats.
