Arsenal and Newcastle have received a boost in their respective pursuits of Amadou Onana and Anthony Gordon.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri who claimed that Mikel Arteta is interested in signing Onana.

Elsewhere, a story from Sky Sports states that Newcastle are in talks over a deal to sign Anthony Gordon, with a sum of £40m said to potentially be enough to strike an agreement.

Now, there has been a significant development, as things go from bad to worse for Everton.

The Toffees have just sacked Frank Lampard, Sam Allardyce is being tipped to replace him, Tottenham hijacked their deal to sign Arnaut Danjuma, and now, the aforementioned duo have failed to turn up for training.

That is according to Ben Grounds of Sky Sports, who believes Onana – a £33m signing from Lille in August – and Gordon have failed to turn up for training at Finch Farm.

Paul Tait and Leighton Baines took the first-team session earlier today, but there was no sign of the Belgium international or the England Under-21 international as their futures at Goodison Park hang in the balance.

Tavolieri believes the departure of Lampard has thrown Onana’s situation into uncertainty, in addition to Everton’s financial issues which could force the Toffees to cash in.

In regards to Gordon, Sky Sports believe Newcastle are targeting the Everton No.10 as they aim to replace Chris Wood, who they allowed to leave for Nottingham Forest on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Onana to Arsenal & Gordon to Newcastle could crush Everton

In our view, it is imperative that Everton find a way to keep both their No.8 and No.10 on Merseyside until the summer.

The Toffees currently find themselves 19th in the Premier League, level on 15 points with 20th-place Southampton.

Only goal difference is keeping Everton from propping up the rest of England’s top-flight.

Everton are managerless, struggling for cash and the fanbase is restless as anger mounts towards Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri, so the last thing they need is to sell two of their best players.

If Onana and Gordon are allowed to leave, Everton’s chances of survival will take a significant dent – to say the least.
