According to The Sun, Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick wants to sign Leeds United central defender Charlie Cresswell, a player Manchester United wanted previously.
The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Middlesbrough boss Carrick is keen on signing Cresswell in the January transfer window and is ready to pay Leeds £4 million plus extras for the defender.
The 20-year-old central defender is on loan at Millwall from Leeds at the moment.
The Sun have claimed that Manchester United showed interest in the defender when he first broke into the Leeds team.
Carrick is a former Manchester United midfielder and caretaker-manager who was appointed the Middlesbrough boss in October 2022.

Should Leeds United sell Charlie Cresswell to Middlesbrough?
In our view, Leeds United should not rush into selling Charlie Cresswell to Middlesbrough in the January transfer window.
Cresswell is only 20 years of age now, and he has big potential.
Yes, the defender is not part of the Leeds first team right now, but he is young and has time on his hands.
We believe that Leeds should not give up on a player who was described as “unreal” by Leeds-owned forward Joe Gelhardt on Instagram in July 2022.
