Southampton and Brentford are keeping tabs on Salernitana’s Serie A midfielder Emil Bohinen with the one-time Leeds United target potentially on his way to the Premier League at last, according to Sport Italia.
The son of former Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers ace Lars Bohinen; 23-year-old Emil has long since been tipped to follow in his father’s footsteps.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, a Leeds side dominating the Championship under Marcelo Bielsa considered using some of the £9 million fee they earned from the sale of Jack Clarke to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 to bring in Bohinen from Norwegian outfit Staebek.

Staebak sporting director even admitted at the time that, in addition to Leeds, Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United were taking a keen interest in a stylish central midfielder who produced eight assists and scored four goals during a breakthrough 2019 Eliteserien campaign.
“We had some talks with various clubs,” Andre Inge Olsen told Eurosport. “We talked to Leeds.”
Southampton and Brentford now want Serie A ace Emil Bohinen
With Leeds losing Mateusz Klich to DC United, time will tell whether Victor Orta plans to dust of his contact book and get in touch with Bohinen again. Leeds certainly feel light in midfield. Especially with Adam Forshaw maybe on borrowed time too.
Sport Italia say that Southampton and Brentford are interested in the now-Salernitana enforcer. Southampton are in the midst of a hectic January recruitment drive – signing Mislav Orsic and Carlos ‘Charly’ Alcaraz – and Bohinen is exactly the kind of young, high-energy player the South Coast club are famous for. Brentford, meanwhile, have a tradition of signing up-and-coming Scandinavian talent.
Salernitana, the report adds, currently have little interest in letting Bohinen go. They were similarly belligerent when Nottingham Forest came calling for the tough-tackling Malian Lassana Coulibaly recently; Steve Cooper’s side turning their attention to new £18 million addition Danilo instead.
According to Tutto Salernitana, Serie A leaders Napoli have also scouted Bohinen in the recent past.
“We want midfielders who can play. Who are quick with their head and feet,” ex-Salernitana coach Davide Nicola said of the £3 million ace (Tuttomercatoweb).
“I believe in this boy because he has interesting technical qualities. He’s intelligent.”
