Tottenham are one of the clubs reportedly keen on Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma – a player that Spurs icon Rafael van der Vaart likened to Arjen Robben towards the end of 2021, after Danjuma broke into the Netherlands side.

Nigeria-born Danjuma, 25, has sparkled since joining Villarreal from Bournemouth in the summer of 2021. His first season saw him hit the ground running, having a hand in 20 goals in 34 games under now-Villa boss Unai Emery.

This season, his form has dipped. Six goals and no assists in 17 appearances. But The Mail claim Spurs want to sign him, along with Aston Villa and Everton. It is believed the £35million-rated talent could be available on a loan deal.

Speaking in 2021 after after Danjuma broke into the Netherlands squad, van der Vaart was impressed. The ex-Spurs star raved about Danjuma, comparing him to another Netherlands man – Robben. Danjuma is a “golden player”.

“We have a golden player on our hands. He can decide something, like Robben. Gave him the ball, something is happening. Danjuma has that. He makes you sit on the edge of your seat,” Van der Vaart said, as per VoetbalZone.

Tottenham keen on Danjuma: Van der Vaart likened him to Robben

Danjuma would be a wonderful signing for Spurs. Clearly, the North London club are pursuing targets in the final third as well as at right wing-back. Pedro Porro remains the priority – but Spurs also need additions in attack.

Bryan Gil starting the last three games is proof of that. He has impressed, and will have gone up in Antonio Conte’s estimations – but he is hardly one Conte will trust. The Italian will want someone he can rely on, and Danjuma is.

At least, judging by van der Vaart’s comments. He knows English football and proved on the biggest stage last season, he can score. He netted six goals in 11 Champions League games as Villarreal reached the semi-finals.
