Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham defender Djed Spence, who is believed to be keen on leaving north London this month to play more regular football.
According to Football London, the Bundesliga giants have joined the growing race to sign Spence, who as reported by ESPN is open to departing Tottenham in the January window as Spurs look to explore a loan deal for the former Middlesbrough talent.
As per Football London, three Premier League clubs are also interested in signing Spence on loan, but with Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong expected to leave the German club this month, the Tottenham right-back could be a direct replacement for the Netherlands’ international.
Recently lauded by former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp as ‘brilliant’, Spence has endured a rough time at Spurs since joining in the summer, with the 22-year-old making just six appearances in all competitions, playing 41 minutes in that time and failing to make one start.

Indeed, it makes sense why the player himself is keen to leave Tottenham this month on loan. And with Antonio Conte himself seemingly open to the idea, Spence could soon be off to Germany if Leverkusen make a strong enough case for the former Nottingham Forest loan star.
Moreover, whilst staying in the Premier League would be ideal for Spence and Tottenham, heading to Germany could be much better for the youngster’s development, with the Bundesliga a tried-and-tested division for British talents to gain vital minutes.
Leverkusen signing Spence on loan would be perfect for Tottenham

Spence is clearly a player who has the potential to become a superstar for Tottenham one day in future. And when planning the defender’s development path, signing for Leverkusen is by far and away the best option for the England youth international.
After all, the Bundesliga has been a division that is proven to be incredible for young players. And for a club as big as Leverkusen under an exciting coach like Xabi Alonso, Spence could develop a lot in a small amount of time, which could all lead to a breakthrough next season at Tottenham.
