Tottenham Hotspur have been rated as ‘one to watch’ in a possible pursuit of James Maddison this year.

At least, that is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Spurs were keen on the Leicester City playmaker last summer but obviously nothing materialised.

This time around, though, renewed interest makes sense.

That’s because the England international is enjoying a brilliant season with the Foxes, recording 11 goal involvements in 14 Premier League outings – seven goals, four assists.

For a midfielder, a goal per two games record is outstanding.

On Friday, Jacobs revealed that Maddison was ‘assessing’ his options this year and intimated that Tottenham could make a move at some point.

He wrote on Twitter:

This is something Spurs need, to be honest.

There’s still too much of a reliance on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in a goalscoring context and additional goals from midfield would absolutely make Antonio Conte’s side a lot more dimensional.

In fact, you could argue that goals from midfield has been severely lacking at the Lilywhites since the days of Dele Alli being in his pomp and Christian Eriksen, which stretches back six or seven years now really.

Maddison would be a brilliant signing and one that the player himself might be tempted by, too.
