What position does Cody Gakpo play? Liverpool supporters across the world will want to know every bit of detail about their new January capture after a deal was agreed with PSV Eindhoven for the 23-year-old
Whilst Gakpo has been shining bright in the Eredivisie for a number of seasons now, the recently-concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar has enhanced his reputation further and he will now work under one of the best managers in the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp.
After scoring three goals during the group stages of the World Cup for the Netherlands, those in the PSV boardroom braced themselves for offers, and despite the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal showing interest, it’s Merseyside and Anfield that will be Gakpo’s next destination.

Jurgen Klopp has a number of injuries to deal with, no more so than a fresh setback for Luis Diaz, who is joined on the sidelines by Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.
That’s forced Liverpool’s hands to sign one of Europe’s up-and-coming talents. But what position does Gakpo play?
WHAT POSITION DOES GAKPO PLAY?

Well, according to WhoScored, Gakpo has predominantly played as a left-sided attacking player this season for PSV, playing 12 games in that role, scoring an impressive six goals and supplying nine assists.
But he also has played as a left-sided forward, scoring six goals and providing five assists from those seven games this term.
That could be of great use, especially given the injury to Luis Diaz because Klopp could utilise his new capture on Liverpool’s left flank.

However, if he feels the need to use him in different areas of the pitch, then once again, he can do that and the 14-cap international has that versatility to his game.
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Louis van Gaal used Gakpo either as an attacking midfielder or a centre-forward, according to Transfermarkt.
Given that summer signing Darwin Nunez is searing like the heat from the Sahara Desert outside of the penalty box, but blowing cold like he’s in the North Pole when inside the six-yard box, then it gives Klopp another goalscorer that can dance with Mo Salah in the final third.
Mainly, you would want to use Gakpo out on the left, where he can cut inside, but if need be, he can also play up top alongside Mo Salah.
Either way, this is a statement of intent from wantaway owners FSG and another layer of serious venom added to Liverpool’s already-fearsome attack.
