Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs scouting James Maddison for a possible move in the January transfer sales. Newcastle United are also interested in the Leicester City ace.
That is according to ESPN, which reports Maddison has an array of potential suitors taking an interest in his situation. Leicester were loath to lose the England midfielder back in the summer. But manager Brendan Rodgers could now consider cashing in on the 26-year-old.

The Foxes coach is eager to add to his squad during the winter window but must first raise funds. So, Rodgers’ resistance to Maddison’s departure could soon ease and free the one-cap Three Lion to secure a move. Any change in his stance will delight Newcastle, though.

Tottenham are interested in a transfer for Newcastle’s top target, Maddison
Maddison is one of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s top targets ahead of the January transfer window. The Toon coach rates the £24m former Norwich City ace highly as he bids to keep the Magpies in the mix for Europe. The St James’ Park side also sought a deal this summer.
Per Chronicle Live, Leicester snubbed a £50m bid from Newcastle during the off-season for Maddison’s transfer. But the Toon remain keen and some of their England stars even used the World Cup to sell the Coventry native on what an exciting project Howe is now leading.

Now, though, Newcastle could face rival interest in Maddison from Tottenham if they seek his transfer from Leicester in January. Spurs are among a host of rival suitors keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder. He has seven goals and four assists over 14 games this season.
Maddison has been sparkling for Leicester to earn his England recall
All of Maddison’s goal involvements have come during his 13 Premier League appearances. His haul further follows a 12-goal, eight-assist top-flight campaign over 35 games last term. He had not scored more than eight or assisted more than seven in a top-flight term before.

Further, Maddison’s creative streak caught Gareth Southgate’s attention before the World Cup. The Three Lions boss had not called the midfielder up to a single team since his debut in November 2019. Yet Maddison would then not play a single second through Qatar 2022.
Nonetheless, Tottenham have joined Newcastle with their interest in securing Maddison’s transfer from Leicester in 2023. A move that would delight former Toon midfielder Darren Ambrose if Antonio Conte beats Howe and signs Rodgers’ star creator in the near future.
“I for one, and I am sure you are the same, we all know where we want him to go. I would love to see him at Spurs,” Ambrose told talkSPORT. “But he has been fantastic at Leicester. He’s got into the England World Cup squad by playing for Leicester and Brendan Rodgers.”
