When Tottenham offloaded Dele Alli back in January, it was a difficult moment for many Spurs fans as well as the player himself.

The 26-year-old had become a fan favourite in N17 after scoring 67 goals and providing 61 assists in 269 appearances for the north Londoners, also helping them reach the Champions League final in 2019.

Many Tottenham fans hoped to see the England international rediscover his best form at Everton, although things have now gone from bad to worse for Dele during his loan spell at Besiktas.

What’s the story?

Well, the man born in Milton Keynes is struggling in Turkey, scoring just two goals in 11 appearances.

Last night, Dele made his 12th appearance of the campaign in a Turkish Cup clash against third division side Şanlıurfa, where Besiktas alarmingly found themselves 2-0 down after just 15 minutes thanks to a brace from Kemal Rüzgar.

Şenol Güneş clearly felt the England international was not pulling his weight, as he chose to substitute him after just 28 minutes in an attempt to overturn the situation.

Besiktas supporters seemed to agree with that decision, as boos could be heard aimed towards Dele as he jogged off the pitch.

The Turkish giants then went on to win 4-2 after the Tottenham fan favourite had been withdrawn.

It is genuinely sad to see Dele struggling to hit the heights of old, and we sincerely hope he can turn things around.

Interestingly, Turkish news outlet Takvim believe Güneş wants to sign 30-year-old Dia Saba of Sivasspor as a replacement for Dele in January.

We are just over a week away from the January window opening, so it certainly isn’t unrealistic to believe this was the attacking midfielder’s final appearance for the Turkish giants – we can see him being sent back to Everton.

Where he goes from now remains to be seen, but as aforesaid, we hope Dele can turn his situation around.
