Stevie Nicol has urged Liverpool to sign Tottenham Hotspur transfer target and Morocco’s World Cup star, Sofyan Amrabat.

The Anfield legend pointed out that when Jurgen Klopp’s side were previously at their best – winning the Premier League title and securing the Champions League trophy – they ‘out-ran, out-fought and out-beasted’ teams in the middle of the park.

And he feels Amrabat, who plays for Serie A side Fiorentina, can do just that, as he proved on football’s biggest stage during the past few weeks.

Morocco created history because they became the first African nation to reach the semi-final, before settling for the fourth spot after they were beaten in the third-place play-off by Croatia on Saturday.

From Antonio Conte’s Tottenham to Eddie Howe’s high-flying Newcastle United, many clubs across the Premier League are now looking to bring Amrabat to English football, but Nicol wants him heading to Merseyside, as he told ESPN.

“Definitely Amrabat,” said Nicol. “I think of Liverpool at their best, winning the Premier League and the Champions League.

“They had three players in the middle of the park who just physically our-ran, out-fought and out-beasted anybody that was put in front of them.

“If there was a beast at this World Cup, then it was this guy. I mean he caught Mbappe. I wouldn’t (have Amrabat over Bellingham), but I wouldn’t mind having Amrabat, though.”

AMRABAT PERFECT FOR LIVERPOOL

There are some who warn that you shouldn’t buy a player on the back of a World Cup, and for some, Amrabat might be that guy.

In truth, it all depends on where the 26-year-old was on their scouting list prior to Qatar, if he was high up, then go ahead and push for him.

With energy to burn, bravery on the ball when in tight situations in his own defensive third and the ability to win the ball back time and time again, the all-action midfielder would be perfect for Liverpool and Klopp’s need for freshness in the middle of the park.
