Tottenham Hotspur want Sofyan Amrabat but his agency are pushing for the Fiorentina midfielder to sign for Liverpool instead.

That’s according to Sky Italy reporter and Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who has been speaking to Soccer News in the Netherlands.

Di Marzio claims that Tottenham did want Amrabat earlier this year, long before his World Cup heroics with Morocco over the last month.

However, he also noted that Tottenham are now very happy with the midfielder they signed instead having landed Rodrigo Bentancur.

Di Marzio seems to think that Tottenham aren’t pursuing Amrabat all that strongly despite La Repubblica reporting that Spurs are set to open talks for the Moroccan.

That report suggested that Fiorentina now want €50million (£43.5million) for Amrabat, hiking up their price after his World Cup displays.

Di Marzio claims that Amrabat’s agency ICM Stellar – who represent Ibrahima Konate – dream of placing Amrabat at Liverpool in 2023.

Jurgen Klopp and Julian Ward appear to be very keen on Amrabat on it’s the ideal move for the midfielder’s agency.

Liverpool makes more sense than Tottenham for Amrabat

Tottenham have liked Amrabat for a while now but a move to North London would be a surprise in the January transfer window.

Tottenham not only have Bentancur alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but also promising talent Oliver Skipp and summer singing Yves Bissouma.

Signing another midfielder would only make sense if it’s a player who can offer something going forward and that isn’t really Amrabat’s game.

The 26-year-old has the energy to get forward but does his best work breaking up play in front of the defence.

On the other hand, Liverpool have seen Fabinho struggle a little this season and need another powerful holding midfielder to give Klopp more competition in midfield.

Amrabat makes perfect sense at the base of Liverpool’s midfield and his agency probably have it right in targeting them over Tottenham as his next club.
