Toni Kroos believes Arsenal youth manager Per Mertesacker would be the man perfect man to take on the vacant role as Germany’s technical director.
After Die Mannschaft’s shock exit from the group stage at the World Cup, Olivier Bierhoff resigned from the role recently, as per BBC Sport.
The former German international came to the decision after working with the German football association since 2004.
As first reported by GOAL, Mertesacker has brought through tons of change since being hired as a manager at Arsenal’s academy in 2017.
The World Cup winner was responsible for a shake-up behind-the-scenes in which senior figures such as Steve Morrow, Kevin Beadell and other four such members were shown the door, in another story by GOAL.
The former Gunners captain has completely revamped the scouting network as well, as he plays a key role in player recruitment and keeping a close eye on the loan market to assess which sides would help best develop the club’s young players.
Ultimately, the changes made by Per Mertesacker has seen the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe in particular rise up the ranks to become first-team players.

Toni Kroos is an advocate of Per Mertesacker leaving the Arsenal job to join Germany as their new technical director.
“I really think Per is the perfect man for the job. He is a great personality, also has an absolute authority and on the other hand, he can also be a buddy guy”, he said on Einfach mal Luppen podcast.
Kroos continued, “Per is mega professional and could also make sure that there is a certain closeness to the fans again. In my eyes, he would be the perfect man for the job.”
“He has gained a lot of experience in the academy of Arsenal London over the years.”
One doubts Arsenal will adhere to Toni Kroos’ request, seeing how key Per Mertesacker is to the club behind-the-scenes.
