Chris Wood is one of five players who Newcastle United could reportedly sell during the January transfer window.

At least, that’s what a report from 90 Min has intimated this morning.

Wood joined the Magpies for £25 million only 11 months ago but with Callum Wilson on fire in the Premier League this season, and Alexander Isak having signed for £60 million in August, the New Zealand may be deemed surplus to requirements under Eddie Howe.

The same is true of four other Newcastle teammates, with 90 Min reporting that Jamal Lewis, Jamal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser could all also be made available for transfer.

Earlier on Thursday, HITC Sport wrote about Wood could be considered a decent transfer target for Leeds United, who sold the towering hitman back in 2017.

It’s been a very disappointing first 11 months at St James’s Park for the big man.

Since joining from Burnley last January, Wood has only managed three Premier League goals in 31 appearances.

He did his bit in helping Howe’s side win their relegation battle last season, which is the reason he was added to the squad.

But with Newcastle now third in the Premier League standings, it would appear that he isn’t needed any longer.
