Tottenham Hotspur want Josko Gvardiol and it’s now suggested that the RB Leipzig defender doesn’t actually have a release clause after all.

RB Leipzig are growing more and more accustomed to losing key players.

Timo Werner, Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate, Naby Keita… the list goes on and on.

Leipzig are now finding that the jump from being very good to being elite is a big one and they could now lose another star player with their quest to progress proving a difficult one.

Tottenham Hotspur want Josko Gvardiol

Defender Josko Gvardiol looks set to follow Christopher Nkunku out of Leipzig in 2023.

The Croatian defender has been simply colossal for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.

Gvardiol has been rock solid and has been hailed as ‘different class’ by BBC Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas.

Unsurprisingly, Premier League clubs are very interested.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Tottenham want to sign Gvardiol and are trying to use wide man Ivan Perisic to convince him to join Spurs.

The Telegraph add that Chelsea would like to sign Gvardiol alongside teammate Nkunku, who is set to join the Blues in 2023.

That report claimed that Gvardiol has a release clause worth around £43.6million.

However, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg – one of the most reliable sources in Germany – claims that there is no release clause in Gvardiol’s contract.

Gvardiol’s contract runs until 2027 and there is no fixed fee for him to be prised away from Leipzig any time soon.

That leaves Leipzig looking at a bidding war for Gvardiol with Tottenham, Chelsea and many more clubs likely to make moves.

It will be very difficult for Tottenham to fend of Chelsea both in terms of his transfer fee and the wages required to secure a deal.

Gvardiol looks like the perfect left-sided centre back but with no release clause included, Chelsea will be looking to blow Spurs out of the water.
