Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Inter Milan have increased Denzel Dumfries’ asking price to £42million amid reports Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign the Netherlands international – with Spurs said to have opened talks with Inter.
Dumfries, 26, opened his account for the World Cup on Saturday evening as Louis van Gaal’s side reached the quarter finals. A lovely first-time finish into the bottom corner past Arsenal’s Matt Turner, as Netherlands beat USA 3-1.
The interest from Tottenham and Chelsea is not new. CalcioMercato reported last week that Tottenham and Chelsea both want to sign the right-back, while 90Min say Spurs have actually been in contact with Inter over a potential deal.
The previous CM report said Spurs or Chelsea would need to spend between £30million and £34.5million to get him. Now, CM say his World Cup form has increased his value. Inter want four times their initial outlay of €13million.
So, Spurs or Chelsea would have to pay a figure worth €48million – or almost £42million to sign the defender. If that deters interest in Dumfries remains to be seen, but it means that both clubs might have to pay a further £12million.

Inter increase Dumfries asking price amid Tottenham and Chelsea reports
Tottenham desperately need Dumfries and an increase in price to little over £40million should not stop them. Dumfries, in the role he plays, is specialised to playing as a wing-back. He is absolutely perfect for Conte’s Tottenham side.
Not only that, but it is Tottenham’s weak link. Emerson Royal remains first choice, but he is the best of a bad situation. He has not done enough to earn his place in the side week in, week out. But Spurs have little quality in that area.
Matt Doherty is good, but inconsistent in terms of form and remaining injury free. Djed Spence remains a rookie and is yet to convince Conte. Dumfries would be a wonderful signing – but Chelsea may have more cash to spend.
