Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham and Antonio Conte have pencilled in contract talks in the next fortnight, to make a decision on the Italian’s future. Reports this week say Spurs have offered Conte a new deal.
Conte, 53, remains out of contract at the end of the season. He has now surpassed a year at Tottenham, taking Spurs from a club struggling to qualify for Europe and crashing out of the Conference League – to a Champions League side.
Italian journalist Enrico Camelio says Spurs have made an offer to Conte. An offer that is going to be difficult to turn down, in terms of wages. But Juventus are interested and Conte will make a decision during the World Cup break.
Jones says Conte and Tottenham will sit down to discuss his contract in the next two weeks. Probably, after the games against Nottingham Forest and Leeds – when the break for the World Cup kicks in. It looks promising for Tottenham.

“He’s got contract talks coming up in the next couple of weeks. As part of those talks, he’s going to lay out what is needed to really kick Tottenham on over two transfer windows. Conte will stay another year if they back him.”

Keeping Conte is key. Yes, there is criticism of Conte’s style of play. Yes, there are doubts over whether he is in it for the long term. But if Spurs are to keep progressing, as they have done over the last 12 months – keeping him is pivotal.
How long can they keep him? Spurs will definitely have Conte until June 2024, they have a clause in his contract allowing them to extend his deal without Conte’s say so. But, they will want his blessing and probably, a new deal.
