As per a report by Portuguese newspaper Record, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Marcus Edwards in the January transfer window.

The versatile attacker, who is currently plying his trade at Sporting CP joined the Lilywhites’ academy at the age of 8.

However, after unsuccessful loan stints at Norwich City and Excelsior, the youngster was shipped off to Vitoria on a permanent basis in 2019.

It seems as if the Englishman has truly come into his own at Sporting, with several clubs across Europe queuing up for the fleet-footed forward’s signature.

In the 2022/2023 season, the 23-year old has registered an impressive 7 goals and 6 assists in all competitions, especially catching the eye in the Champions League.

With Son Heung-min having nothing short of a crisis of a campaign as well as Richarlison failing to convert his encouraging displays into goals and assists, it’s clear to see that Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements up front.

Taking into considering how Edwards is adept at operating across the frontline as well as in the hole, his potential addition and that too as soon as at the turn of the year would make sense on all levels.

From both a qualitative as well as a depth perspective, it comes as no surprise why the North Londoners are interested in the in-demand star.

In addition, it was reported by HITC on Monday that the club were keen on bringing in a backup for Dejan Kulusevski in January, which could well be their former academy graduate.

With Antonio Conte’s side looking out of ideas going forward as well, a tricky customer with bags of pace and creativity such as Marcus Edwards could be the perfect addition to the side.

However, the only negative in Spurs’ pursuit could well be that he could be unwilling to depart Sporting after joining the club as recently as in January this year.
