Charlie Nicholas has told his Daily Express column that Sean Dyche and Ralph Hasenhuttl would be open to joining Rangers, after both managers received the sack from Premier League clubs in 2022 – the latter, on Monday.
If Giovanni van Bronckhorst was not under enormous pressure already, he certainly is now. He watched his Rangers side suffer a 2-1 defeat to St. Johnstone on the weekend in Perth. They are now seven points behind rivals Celtic.
A woeful result at the worst time. Injuries have played a part. But Rangers have made a poor start to the League, lost to Celtic, and becoming the worst-ever side in terms of points and goals scored in a Champions League group campaign.
Van Bronckhorst is under huge pressure and to many, it is a surprise he has not yet been given his marching orders. Celtic icon Nicholas gave his verdict – claiming both Dyche and Hasenhuttl would be open to a move to Rangers.

“You would expect the likes of Sean Dyche and Ralph Hasenhuttl to be serious contenders to replace him. Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has worked with both in the past and has relationships with both,” Nicholas said.
“Would either of them come up to Scotland? They probably would as it would give them the chance to pick up silverware and to improve their CVs and get a chance in Europe, like Brendan Rodgers did.”
Nicholas: Dyche and Hasenhuttl would be open to joining Rangers
The Times reported in 2021, before Rangers hired van Bronckhorst, that Dyche was being considered by Rangers. That was when he was still in a job at Burnley – so clearly, he has admirers north of the border. Now, he is out of work.
He was sacked towards the end of last season by Burnley. Meanwhile, one of the Premier League’s longest-serving managers in Hasenhuttl lost his job at Southampton on Monday. Both experienced, but have different ways of playing.
You would have to say, given the position Rangers find themselves in and with limited cash to spend, that either gaffer would be a coup. But both are renowned for working with little cash reserves and that will play in Rangers’ hands.
