Back in 2021, The Times reported that Rangers were considering a move to bring Sean Dyche to Ibrox and after a sixth loss in 12 games for Giovanni van Bronckhorst – the Gers should act quickly, before another club becomes interested.
Dyche, 51, remains out of work after being sacked by Burnley earlier this year. But over the last week, he is beginning to put his name back out there. He appeared on Monday Night Football. He has been linked with Leeds and Villa.
While on MNF, he was asked about his next job – responding with “watch this space”. Villa have since appointed Unai Emery and as things stand, it looks as though Leeds are sticking with Jesse Marsch. At least, for the time being.
But with Leeds winless in eight and taking on Liverpool next, that could change. Rangers will know themselves, just how good Liverpool can be against a side struggling for form. Van Bronckhorst is under enormous pressure at Ibrox.
Rangers were considering Dyche: They should act quickly
The Gers side are struggling to keep clean sheets, leaking goals. There has not been much of an issue in attack. But six losses from six games in the Champions League, and four points behind Celtic in the league, is a sign not all is well.
For a club that are challenging for the title, eight clean sheets in 22 is not enough. Conceding 34 goals in that time is woeful. They need a manager that can come in and tighten up the defence. Dyche is known for that, while at Burnley.
Clearly, the Rangers board are admirers of Dyche. With the Englishman yet to find a new club, but looking for a way back in and Rangers in need of plugging the leak – Dyche would be ideal. Before Leeds come in, Rangers must get him.
