Arsenal could now lose Kieran Tierney in 2023 after the Scotland international was dropped by Mikel Arteta.

That is according to the Telegraph, who believe the 25-year-old will attract plenty of interest in January after slipping down the pecking order at Arsenal.

Even Cedric Soares – naturally a right sided defender – was brought on ahead of Tierney at left-back in the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, raising doubts over the Scot’s future at the Emirates Stadium.

Tierney could leave Arsenal

Well, this is a strange time for Tierney.

The Arsenal No.3 admitted he was left shocked by Arteta’s decision to drop him ahead of the 3-2 win over Liverpool, telling Sky Sports that he has never experienced such a thing.

Tierney said: “I’ve genuinely never had that. That was the first meeting I’ve had like in my life where I’ve been dropped, so it is new to me still.”

Interestingly, Takehiro Tomiyasu has been preferred at left-back, despite the fact the Japan international usually plays on the right, just like Cedric.

Arteta clearly wants his left-back to be strong with their right foot and play inside the pitch, something Tierney – who made a name for himself at Celtic by flying down the flanks – is not exactly used to.

Arsenal should only accept huge Tierney offers

In our view, Tierney still has a lot to offer, and we see no reason why he needs to be forced out of Arsenal unless he actively wants a change of scenery.

When fit, there are few better left-backs in the Premier League, and it would be good for Arteta to have different options in that department.

Depending on the opposition, the Spaniard may need to use someone like Tierney, rather than Tomiyasu or Cedric.

Having said that, the Gunners should consider selling the Scottish defender if an exceptional offer arrives.

Tierney’s stock is currently high, as he is fully fit and also has his best years ahead of him at the age of 25.

Therefore, Arsenal could receive a decent profit on their initial £25m investment.

If they fail to receive an offer of £30m or more, however, the north Londoners shouldn’t let Tierney go.
