Everton have made contact with the agent of Inter Milan wing-back Robin Gosens regarding a potential January switch from Serie A to the Premier League, according to FC Inter News.

10 months ago, the German international rebuffed Newcastle United’s advances in favour of joining a Nerazzuri side who were, at the time anyway, still the reigning Scudetto holders. Why? Well, it’s simple really.

“Because it’s Inter,” explained Gosens’ agent Paolo Busardo.

One of the biggest cubs in Europe they may be, but if Inter cannot offer the one-time Atalanta flyer the sort of regular first-team football he requires, then Gosens’ time at the San Siro could be coming to an end after just one year in black-and-blue.

Could Robin Gosens join Everton after turning down Newcastle United?

According to FC Inter News, Simone Inzaghi’s side could accept loan-to-buy bids for the all-action 28-year-old. Everton, the report adds, have ‘knocked on the door’ of Gosens’ agent, with Inter already hot on the trail of a potential replacement in Villarreal’s one-time Leeds United loanee Alfonso Pedraza.

Pedraza, valued at around £13 million, held initial talks with Inter back in August, his representative confirms.

“Obviously a player always wants to play, but it’s not always that easy. There’s not just one reason why I’m playing less,” explains Gosens, who has started just four games this term.

“There was a long stop (due to injury). And there was an underestimation of my injury on my part. But, right now ,it’s important that I feel good. I feel almost like the old Robin I was before. I hope to find more chances (to play) but you also have to accept that the team is running well.”

Gosens, one of the most productive full-backs in the game during his time at Atalanta, would represent a more attacking alternative to the diligent but technically-limited Vitaliy Mykolenko at Goodison Park.

The Everton target produced 12 goals and eight assists for La Dea during a stunning 2020/21 season.
