Blackburn Rovers may keep Ben Brereton Diaz in January despite him being just months away from being able to walk away for nothing.

Brereton Diaz was backed for a huge future during his time with Nottingham Forest.

A strange move to Blackburn then materialised in 2018 and just nine goals in his first three seasons left some feeling that his potential wouldn’t be reached.

Last season really made Brereton Diaz a star though as he scored 22 league goals and became a regular for the Chilean national team.

Blackburn Rovers may keep Ben Brereton Diaz

Understandably, that goalscoring form saw Brereton Diaz earn major interest.

The Daily Mail note that bids from Everton and Fulham were rejected on deadline day whilst Leeds United would like to sign him for free.

AS in Chile even suggested that Leeds and West Ham United both made moves to sign Brereton Diaz over the summer.

The deadline passed with Brereton Diaz still at Ewood Park though and he has already bagged eight goals in 19 games this season.

Hailed as ‘wonderful’ by former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray, Brereton Diaz has become a top Championship attacker.

Interest in Brereton Diaz is lingering though and The Sun claim that Rovers are planning to reject all January offers.

Blackburn ultimately think that keeping Brereton Diaz will help their promotion push, and the money from that would be much higher than any deal to sell him.

This means that Brereton Diaz may well be available for absolutely nothing come the end of the season.

Leeds will certainly be in the market for another attacker in 2023 but you would imagine that they want a signing in January.

Blackburn’s stance may take Brereton Diaz out of Leeds’ immediate plans but you can be sure that many Premier League clubs will be looking into a bargain summer deal.
