Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Jose Mourinho and Roma are also in the running to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi ahead of the January window – with the Italy star a West Ham, Tottenham and Manchester United target.

Frattesi, 23, is quickly establishing himself as one of Italy’s best up-and-coming midfielders. Joining Sassuolo in 2017 from Roma, he has since been out on loan to Ascoli, Empoli and Monza, before getting his break during 2021-22.

He played 38 of his 51 Sassuolo appearances last season, having a hand in eight goals. This season, he has already got four goals in 11 Serie A outings. His form has even seen him called up by Roberto Mancini for the Italy National Team.

Sassuolo News claim that Tottenham scouts watched him score against Inter Milan earlier this month. FC Inter News say West Ham are also keen, while Gazzetta Dello Sport say Erik ten Hag is eyeing a move to bring him to Old Trafford.

But the latest report from Italy states that ex-Tottenham and United gaffer Mourinho is also eyeing a move. Juventus also have an interest in Frattesi, with a fee likely to be in the region of £30million. He has a contract until June 2026.

Which club is best for Frattesi? The chance to play under an Italian legend in Conte at Spurs would suit him. That is, if Conte uses a 3-5-2 system which allows Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur to get forward and contribute.

A move to Juventus would also be decent, with Juve needing an injection of youth. Midfielders like Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot look sluggish and are underperforming. Roma could do with a Frattesi in the middle of the park.

United have numerous options like Frattesi. So, at those four clubs, he would struggle to start. But at West Ham, you would think he would be ideal next to Declan Rice as a box-to-box midfielder – and would start every game.
