Bundesliga boss Bo Svensson has committed his future to Mainz after being linked with Premier League duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton and Hove Albion in recent weeks, speaking to VRM

Music to MEWA Arena ears.

Svensson is following in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel at Mainz. And, after emulating his storied predecessors by turning a relegation-threatened side into a top-half team in double-quick time, it was inevitable that the 43-year-old Dane was going to catch the eye of clubs on the lookout for an exciting, modern head coach.

Svensson was reportedly an option for with the Brighton job. Roberto de Zerbi then took Graham Potter’s place in the Amex dugout instead. According to The Athletic, the former Mainz defender has held talks with Wolves following the sacking of Bruno Lage too.

But when asked to comment on his future, Svensson was unequivocal.

“I feel very, very comfortable in Mainz. The task we have at the moment is very interesting,” Svensson explains; confirming his desire to stay at the German outfit until next year at the earliest.

“I was not contacted by this club (Brighton). At the moment, I have a lot of work here. I give everything here.”

“But I also know that things can change quickly in football. What happens to me if I don’t win any of the next ten games? Are you still with me then? But these things are not so essential because they are hypothetical questions.

“I can say very clearly in the here and now that I feel very comfortable (in Mainz).”

Wolves appear to have moved on from Svensson, labelled an ‘outstanding’ coaching talent by none other than Klopp himself. Julen Lopetegui, per talkSPORT, will reportedly hold formal talks with the Molineux outfit on Thursday.

52-year-old Lopetegui, formerly of Real Madrid and Spain, was sacked by Sevilla following the 4-1 midweek humbling by a Jude Bellingham-inspired Borussia Dortmund.

Interestingly, Lopetegui came ‘close’ to taking over at Wolves back in 2016. He would accept a role at the head of the Spanish national team instead, however.
