Aston Villa fancy signing Ryan Kent and may now join Leeds United in the race to sign the Rangers winger during the upcoming January window.

Villa raided Rangers last year by taking manager Steven Gerrard as well as most of his coaching staff at Ibrox.

Results have been mixed so far with Gerrard struggling to really bring consistent positive results despite being backed in the transfer market.

Villa may look to spend again in the January window but Gerrard may now be looking for a potential bargain addition.

Aston Villa fancy signing Ryan Kent

The Sunday Mirror (02/10, p71) report that Villa are interested in Rangers winger Ryan Kent.

It’s suggested that both Villa and Leeds United will have their eyes on Kent when Rangers take on Liverpool in the Champions League this week.

Kent, 25, is out of contract at the end of the season and has so far shown no indication of extending his contract at Ibrox.

That means Rangers may well be tempted to cash in on Kent for a knockdown price when the January window opens.

Leeds’ interest is well-known; they had liked Kent for years now and the Daily Mail reported that they considered a late move before the summer deadline.

No deal materialised though and that may have just opened the door for Villa to come in and challenge for Kent’s signature.

Gerrard signed Kent for Rangers in 2018, securing a loan deal from Liverpool before paying a huge £7million to lure him away from Anfield in 2019.

Kent has notched 31 goals and 51 assists in 185 games for Rangers but some feel that his record should be more impressive given the quality he possesses.

In fact, Kent’s goal against Hearts on Saturday was his first in 22 games as his drought finally came to an end.

Gerrard is clearly a big fan of Kent having branded him a ‘top player’ at Rangers and Villa did push for a winger signing over the summer having gone in for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

Kent would add competition for places at Villa but there would understandably be questions over whether Kent can cut it in the Premier League.
