That is according to Fabrizio Romano, with the reliable Italian journalist even claiming that the England international is Jürgen Klopp’s No.1 target at Anfield.

Now, Borussia Dortmund have done something significant amid the intense speculation surrounding their 19-year-old wonderkid.

Liverpool target Jude Bellingham named captain

Remarkably, Borussia Dortmund handed Bellingham the captaincy in their Bundesliga clash with FC Köln earlier today.

The teenager was entrusted to lead his side with both Marco Reus and Mats Hummels missing from the squad due to injuries, in what is a significant moment in the Birmingham-born prodigy’s career.

In truth, it doesn’t exactly mean much in regards to Liverpool’s pursuit of Bellingham.

However, the added trust placed upon him by Borussia Dortmund should certainly make him feel wanted at the Signal Iduna Park.

Bellingham being named captain could also add a few extra million to his price tag, which is currently set at €150m (£132m) – Borussia Dortmund clearly know just how valuable their No.22 is.

Liverpool might miss out on Jude Bellingham

It is possible that Bellingham ends up being too expensive for Liverpool at £132m – according to The Athletic.

It was James Pearce who raised the issue that Liverpool could end up hesitating if the figures involved in the deal become too high, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid all interested in the midfield sensation.
