Tottenham Hotspur could genuinely beat Manchester City to the signing of Alessandro Bastoni.
At least, that’s what journalist Dean Jones has claimed to Give Me Sport.
Earlier this week it was reported by Gazzetta dello Sport that Manchester City would be joining Spurs in the race to sign the Inter Milan defender.
This is someone described as a ‘dream signing‘ for Tottenham this past summer but Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici were unable to prise him from San Siro.

However, he remains on the Lilywhites’ radar and Jones has reported that given Conte’s connection to the player, with the Italian boss having managed him in Italy, there’s a realistic chance of the North Londoners pipping Pep Guardiola and anyone else to the coup.
He said: “Conte’s got a good record so far with players brought in from Italy; that’s a good selling point.
“As long as the player himself would be assured that Conte is hanging around, then I think that Tottenham would have a good a chance of anyone of competing with Man City if they do go for Bastoni.”
Spurs won’t be absolutely desperate for a central defender in January, if they continue going as they are.
From seven Premier League outings, Conte’s side are unbeaten and have only conceded seven goals.
Of course, things could change reasonably quickly but the Italian manager has a number of excellent central defenders, like Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet and although Davinson Sanchez gets a bad rep, he’s very capable on his day, too.
The addition of Lenglet – who joined on loan from Barcelona – really slowed down speculation regarding Bastoni coming to Tottenham.
But Conte might be looking to the long term and the Italy international would still be an excellent arrival.
