Bayern Munich have reportedly dropped their interest in signing Benfica talent and rumoured Leeds United and Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos, with the striker no longer on their list of targets.

According to Kicker via the Chronicle, the Bundesliga giants are set on signing a new centre-forward in 2023 following the club’s problems with scoring goals this season after the departure of Robert Lewandowski, however, Ramos will not be considered by Bayern despite the attacker’s immense start to life this campaign with Benfica.

The 21-year-old attacker has already bagged eight goals and six assists in just 12 fixtures this campaign as the Portuguese giants have enjoyed a perfect season, winning every game in all competitions and topping both the Primeira Liga and their UEFA Champions League group, with Ramos the star.

With a reported release clause of £105m, Ramos’ form this season will almost surely see Benfica hold out to this fee amid interest from the likes of Leeds and Newcastle, with Eddie Howe’s side arguably one of the very few in world football who could even match this astronomical figure for the Portuguese talent.

However, whilst Benfica will likely stick to Ramos’ release clause, Bayern dropping out of the race to sign Ramos might play into the hands of Leeds and Newcastle, with the Premier League an obvious next step for the youngster should he wish to progress his career.

Indeed, both sides could find ways to fund a move for Ramos, and with a big player like Bayern now out of the competition, there’s a good chance that Leeds or Newcastle could find a way to sign the 21-year-old in 2023, where the attacker is seemingly set to leave Lisbon for the Premier League or beyond.

Ramos has quickly established himself as Benfica’s next superstar attacker and a player who will likely leave Portugal in the next 12 months for a huge transfer fee, and for Newcastle or Leeds, they should be going all-out to sign the striker in 2023 with Bayern now out of the race.

After all, Ramos is quickly proving himself in both Portugal and in Europe to be an exciting talent, with journalist Alfredo Pedulla labelling the forward as ‘magical’, and the Premier League duo should go all out to add such a player to their ranks in the new year.
