According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham loanee Harry Winks is currently training alone as his nightmare at Sampdoria continues.

Why Harry Winks is struggling away from Tottenham

Well, it seemed like the £91,000-a-week man would be set for a fresh chapter when joining the Italian side on deadline day, although he has endured a difficult start to life in Serie A.

Winks – who was said to prefer a Premier League move – is yet to kick a ball for Sampdoria since his season-long loan move from Tottenham was completed, due to troublesome ankle problems.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport have shed more light on the situation.

The Italian news outlet believe Winks has been training on his own in Italy as he attempts to build up his match fitness, with his condition described as ‘suboptimal’ in the report.

It is also said that the 26-year-old first suffered an injury to his ankle in a game against Burnley back in 2017, with the England international unable to shake off the issue.

There is believed to be optimism at Sampdoria that Winks can make the bench for the upcoming clash with Monza.

Harry Winks can still prove Tottenham wrong

After securing a loan move to Sampdoria, it was said that Winks wanted to prove Tottenham made a mistake in letting him go.

While he has endured a slow start, he definitely has the talent to do just that.

We mustn’t forget what Winks is capable of. This is a player who bossed the midfield against Real Madrid inside the Santiago Bernabeu, while also starring for England at one stage.

If he can overcome his niggling injury issues, Winks can easily become a big player for Sampdoria.
