As Celtic fans currently ride the highs under Ange Postecoglou, many will still never forget the 26th February 2019, when Leicester pinched Brendan Rodgers from the Bhoys.

The Northern Irishman enjoyed a phenomenal stint at Celtic Park from 2016 to 2019, guiding the Hoops to seven trophies as he ran riot in Scottish football.

However, Rodgers tarnished his legacy by pouncing on the first opportunity to return to English football, accepting an offer from Leicester to replace Claude Puel.

Now, history could be about to repeat itself as a worrying rumour involving the 49-year-old emerges.

What’s the story?

Well, according to the Telegraph, Rodgers could now be sacked by Leicester following a run of six Premier League games without a win.

The Foxes are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just one point from seven games, and if history is anything to go by, Leicester will come sniffing around Glasgow for their next hire.

Despite the struggles of this season, Rodgers guided Leicester to European football in successive seasons, and was on the cusp of qualifying for the Champions League in the two campaigns prior to last season.

Therefore, those in the boardroom at Leicester would surely have no qualms about pursuing Ange Postecoglou as his replacement, as succeeding in Scotland can clearly translate to England.

Celtic could face Ange Postecoglou fight

While we do not believe Postecoglou would walk out on Celtic like Rodgers, the Bhoys do need to prepare themselves for a fight as Premier League vultures circle.

For example, the first managerial casualty of the season involving Brighton and Graham Potter saw the Seagulls target a move for the Australian.

Brighton were unsuccessful, and have since turned to Roberto De Zerbi, although it is clear that Postecoglou is now one of the first names considered by Premier League clubs outside of the top six.

Could history repeat itself if Leicester sack Rodgers? Only time will tell, but an improved contract for Postecoglou should certainly be considered by Celtic as his stock rises.
