Brighton and Hove Albion do not think that Ange Postecoglou will leave Celtic now to replace Graham Potter following his move to Chelsea, according to journalist Miguel Delaney in his Reading the Game column in The Independent (12:04pm, September 9, 2022).

Potter left Brighton to take charge of Premier League rivals Chelsea this week.

The Englishman has replaced Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked as the manager of Chelsea this week.

Brighton are now on the hunt for a replacement, and, according to Delaney, one of the names is Postecoglou of Celtic.

The Australian manager was appointed in his current role at Celtic in the summer of 2021.

The 57-year-old guided the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish League Cup success last season.

Delaney wrote in Reading the Game column in The Independent (12:04pm, September 9, 2022): “Many are very interested in what Brighton do next, as much because they are such insightful spotters of real coaching talent.

“The choice of Potter proved inspired. Many see Ange Postecoglou as the obvious choice, but it is currently seen as unlikely he would leave Celtic this early and in a Champions League season. Again, however, a direct offer can change minds.

“One potential option could be Steve Cooper. He is on Brighton’s long list, and there is a feeling he would at least be open-minded about an approach.

“Brighton have certainly proven they’re a more stable club than Nottingham Forest.”

Unlikely to happen

Ange Postecoglou is doing a wonderful job at Celtic and is hugely popular among the club’s fans.

We do not think that the Australian will leave the Hoops now for Brighton and Hove Albion.

Yes, Brighton are an established club in the Premier League, but Celtic are a bigger club with a bigger fanbase who are playing in the UEFA Champions League this season and could continue to do so in the coming years.
