According to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton are now in talks to hire Roberto De Zerbi as a replacement for Graham Potter.
What’s the story?
Well, the Seagulls have been without a manager for over a week now, after Chelsea chose to pinch the 47-year-old as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.
The likes of Bo Svensson and Kjetil Knutsen have been earmarked as candidates to replace Potter, although it seems Brighton have now set their sights on hiring De Zerbi.
Romano believes negotiations are “in progress” between the Seagulls and the Italian, with Brighton under the impression that the 43-year-old is an ideal replacement for Potter.
You can see the reliable Italian journalist’s tweet in full below.
De Zerbi has been unemployed since leaving his role at Shakhtar Donetsk in July, a mutual decision which came after the Ukrainian side saw their campaign affected by the Russian invasion.
Therefore, it shouldn’t be too difficult to hire him if he agrees a move to the Amex Stadium, with no compensation needed to break him away from any contractual obligations.
In his final season with the Ukrainian giants, De Zerbi has his side sat two points clear at the top of the table before Russia’s invasion caused the campaign to be halted in April 2022.
Brighton must hire Roberto De Zerbi quickly
If Brighton are sure about hiring De Zerbi, they need to be quick.
Juventus are also said to be interested in the Italian tactician, as they begin to eye potential replacements for the struggling Massimiliano Allegri – the Serie A giants are without a win in four games.

If that role does become vacant, we believe De Zerbi would much rather stay in his homeland and manage what is arguably the biggest club in the country, rather than take over at Brighton.
Therefore, the Seagulls must be quick, or else they risk missing out on their No.1 target to replace Potter.
